Maintaining the Spirit of Ramadan

Ramadan has come and gone and how fast it flew by? I hope you all attained a huge amount of blessing from this amazing month but as it disappears into the distance I can’t help but feel a great sense of loss, aching.

I miss Ramadan already.

It’s the one month in the whole year that Muslims come together and really show the true spirit of Islam. The one month where we remember our Lord, remember His book and remember His messenger (peace be upon him).

Our religion becomes so important to us we put it before our normal lives. The atmosphere becomes magical almost, as though we as an Ummah are untouchable..

And then boom! Ramadan is over.

The food is out.
Charity is forgotten.
Quran is put away until next year.

I was fortunate enough to tune in to a lecture by Shaykh Samir Al Nass today. Alhumdulillah I learnt a lot. One thing he said about Ramadan..

He said Ramadan is a starting point for us, a training ground. It teaches us self control, it teaches us to remember Allah and we should carry on with this after Ramadan too.

Why?

Because your whole life comes down to one moment, your last moment.

In that moment you want your last breath to be La illaha illallah Muhammadur Rasoolullah

How are you going to achieve this?

By doing good deeds every moment of your life until you’re so close to Allah (SWT) that He makes that possible for you.

And Allah says in the Quran:

‘Remember me and I will remember you.’

InshaAllah let us strive for that goal, let us strive in good deeds so that we die with our faith on our tongues and let us worship Allah every day of every month until we meet Him.

Ameen.
